Hommes Racines
Hommes Racines, 2007-2012
Carried out from 2007 to 2012, this project represents a photographer’s commitment to eleven Indigenous peoples spread across the four corners of the globe. While its main purpose is to show the intimate relationship that connects human beings to their environment, it also stands as a testimony to the diversity of ways of life, practices and traditional knowledge rooted in very different environments. These cultures hold essential knowledge for the preservation of biodiversity. Hommes Racines seeks to encourage reflection on sustainable humanity, whose natural counterpart is the protection of nature.
Each time connected to a specific people, the project highlights the many different responses to living conditions shaped by nature and by History. It is within this context that it explores the notion of roots. By encountering peoples deeply rooted in their territory, as well as others who have faced the ordeal of uprooting, these communities reveal the profound transformations affecting our modern world.
Since 2007, this project has led to the publication of a book in 2012, Hommes Racines, by Éditions de La Martinière, as well as 12 exhibitions and numerous publications in the press.
