About

Pierre De Vallombreuse

Photographer

Pierre de Vallombreuse, born in Bayonne, was influenced from an early age by Joseph Kessel and sought to capture the spirit of his time. He enrolled at the École des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1984 to train as an illustrator, but a trip to Borneo changed the course of his life. After meeting the Punans, he abandoned drawing for photography and embraced a life in the field.

He then spent several years with the Palawans in the Philippines, whose work was exhibited in Arles in 1988. He has published numerous books, exhibited in museums and collaborated with major international media outlets.

Since 1986, he has been documenting the lives of indigenous peoples around the world, building up a unique archive. His committed work draws attention to the fragility of these communities and advocates for their respect in the face of contemporary threats.
